How the hospital estimate is built
For international self-pay patients, a useful quotation should follow specialist review and a defined treatment plan. The preliminary estimate reflects the expected diagnostics, procedure and hospital services, while the final invoice can differ if the actual treatment episode changes.

Different fibroid treatments are different financial pathways
The quotation depends first on the treatment strategy selected after gynecologic assessment.
- Specialist consultation and pelvic ultrasound
- Medication when appropriate
- Hysteroscopic removal for selected intracavitary fibroids
- Laparoscopic or open myomectomy
- Hysterectomy when clinically appropriate and chosen
- Uterine-artery embolization in selected cases
- Additional imaging such as MRI when required for planning
Fertility goals can change both the plan and the cost
A patient who wants to preserve fertility may be offered a different strategy from a patient for whom definitive uterine surgery is appropriate. The estimate should therefore reflect the actual clinical goal rather than a generic fibroid procedure name.
What to ask the hospital to include
Compare written estimates only when the expected treatment scope is similar.
- Pre-treatment ultrasound and any additional imaging
- Hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, open or radiologic approach
- Anesthesia and operating-room services
- Expected inpatient or outpatient pathway
- Pathology after surgical tissue removal
- Follow-up examination before travelling home
- What happens financially if a more extensive procedure becomes necessary
A low headline price may describe a different procedure
UKE's fibroid clinic explicitly describes medical, operative and radiological treatment options, including myomectomy and fibroid embolization. Those pathways should not be compared only by price because they differ in indications, fertility implications, anesthesia, recovery and follow-up.
