The hospital needs the pathology and stage before a useful estimate can be prepared
Melanoma management changes with primary-tumor pathology, lymph-node status, distant staging, resectability and molecular findings. A quote prepared before those elements are reviewed may cover the wrong treatment pathway. Send the primary pathology, operative reports, current imaging and prior systemic-treatment history before asking the German center to price the case.
Localized melanoma surgery is one financial pathway
For localized disease, the episode can include pathology review, specialist consultation, wider excision, anesthesia when required, reconstruction in selected anatomical locations, sentinel-node assessment when indicated and postoperative pathology. The estimate should state which of these elements are actually included rather than using a generic 'skin cancer surgery' label.

Imaging and response assessment can materially affect the total
Advanced melanoma care can require serial CT, PET/CT or MRI depending on disease distribution and the treatment plan. Ask whether baseline staging, scheduled response imaging and specialist radiology review are included in the quote or billed separately.
Molecular testing and pathology can change both treatment and cost
Mutation status such as BRAF can influence whether a targeted-treatment pathway is relevant. International patients should ask whether molecular testing, pathology re-review or additional biomarker work is already available, needs to be repeated in Germany or is outside the preliminary estimate.
Clinical-trial evaluation should not be budgeted as guaranteed treatment
Charité and Heidelberg publish active melanoma studies, but eligibility depends on exact stage, prior treatment, molecular or HLA criteria and trial status at the time of review. A hospital can assess trial eligibility, but patients should not plan travel or finances around an experimental therapy before written confirmation from the study team.

- If surgery is planned, are sentinel-node assessment and reconstruction included when relevant?
- For immunotherapy, how many treatment cycles or weeks does the estimate cover?
- Are the medicines themselves included in the quoted amount?
- Which laboratory tests and imaging studies are included during treatment?
- How are treatment-related toxicities or an unexpected hospital admission billed?
- If molecular testing changes the treatment plan, will a revised estimate be issued?
- Which follow-up can be transferred to the home-country oncology team?
- How are overpayments or additional charges reconciled after the episode?
