Diagnostic typing can be a major part of the first quotation
The hospital may need to review or repeat echocardiography, cardiac MRI, monoclonal-protein testing, bone-tracer scintigraphy/SPECT, pathology or genetic testing before a disease-specific treatment plan can be defined.
ATTR and AL are different financial pathways
ATTR cardiac amyloidosis can involve cardiology, genetics and disease-specific treatment, whereas AL amyloidosis requires hematology-led systemic therapy with cardiac co-management. Quotations for these two diseases are therefore not directly comparable.
Heart-failure and rhythm care may add separate services
Congestion management, arrhythmia assessment, anticoagulation decisions, conduction disease or device evaluation can generate additional consultations, testing or inpatient care depending on the cardiac phenotype.
Systemic involvement changes the overall treatment budget
Amyloidosis can affect organs outside the heart. Neurologic, renal, hematologic or other specialist assessment may be clinically necessary but can sit outside a cardiology-only quotation.
International-patient estimates should follow specialist record review
Send the existing cardiac imaging, scintigraphy, monoclonal-protein results, pathology/typing and genetic findings when available. This reduces the risk of comparing quotations that assume different diagnoses or different stages of the diagnostic pathway.
