Choose the clinical capability before choosing the city. A hospital should have the specialist department, multidisciplinary center or procedure experience that matches the documented medical problem.

Use objective German hospital information

Treat certifications as evidence, not a guarantee
For areas such as oncology, disease-specific certification can provide a transparent quality framework. It does not guarantee a particular outcome or prove that the center is best for every patient, but it is more useful than an unexplained commercial ranking.
Check the international-patient pathway
A technically suitable hospital may still have specific rules for self-paying patients from abroad. Confirm who receives the records, which languages are accepted, whether the case is reviewed remotely, how the estimate is prepared and what must happen before an appointment is confirmed.
Compare hospitals using the same clinical question
If you request more than one opinion, send equivalent records and ask comparable questions. Otherwise two hospitals may appear to disagree when they are actually reviewing different information or proposing different phases of care.
